This year's calendar of summer events in the Gemer region, central Slovakia, has been diversified by a pilot project related to observing the night sky on the Great Meadow (Veľká Lúka) in Muránska Planina National Park.
The Great Meadow is a mountain meadow in the southeastern part of the national park. It is popular for breeding the Muráň Norik, a horse that is one of the symbols of the park.
The Gemer Regional Tourism Organisation (OOCR) initially had no idea whether such an event would even take place in the south of the Banská Bystrica Region.
In the end, people's interest exceeded all expectations. Therefore, the event will continue very soon.
"We will bring the fascinating world of stars to the visitors of Muránska Planina not only in summer, but we're also planning to organise winter observations," Jaroslav Hric, director of OOCR Gemer, told MY Novohrad.
Muránska Planina meets the parameters of a dark sky park, he added.
