Plenipotentiary for euro to be appointed

FINANCE Minister Ivan Mikloš announced that Slovakia would have a government plenipotentiary responsible for the introduction of euro into the country, the Pravda daily reported.

Mikloš wants to propose Ivan Štefanec, the current secretary of the national committee for the renewal of the Tatras for the post. Štefanec should coordinate the euro adoption process as of January next year.

Slovakia plans adopting the euro in January 2009. The country thus has three more years to prepare for the change.
