BratislavaEXHIBITION:THE AUSTRIAN Cultural Forum in Bratislava is hosting an exhibition called Believe in Doubt that presents photographic and film works by members of the Upper Austrian Artistic Association. Their works focus on a central attribute of photography – its documenting of reality – but the exhibition shifts the border between documentary and fiction. Artists like E. Czihak, L. Estermann, L. Gebetsroither, J. Huemer, W. Schroedl, Th. Steiner and others have allowed their works to be arranged in mutual interaction as well as in contrast. The collection can be viewed until May 28 at the Austrian Cultural Forum, Zelená 7.

l BALLET: Ky-Time – The Slovak National Theatre’s ballet has prepared a programme dedicated to world-famous Czech choreographer Jiří Kylián. It consists of five choreographies: two are his own and three are by his students and followers (M. Radačovský and L. Timulák).

LIVE MUSIC: Timna Brauer and Elias Meiri Ensemble, Pressburger Klezmer Band – This splendid mixture of emotive Jewish music and dances, featuring Austrian singers and bands plus renowned Slovak musicians, will be enhanced by a lecture on Jewish dances through a project by the House of Traditional Dances.

FESTIVAL: THE FESTIVAL of Choral Singing of Viliam Figuš-Bystrý in Banská Bystrica is among the oldest choral festivals and is now celebrating its 32nd year, which starts on April 22 with a workshop and a church concert, and follows with performances by youth choirs on April 23 and a competition between children’s choirs on April 24. These are accompanied with a concert every evening and the event culminates on the evening of April 24 with a gala concert in Estrádna Hall, hosting Tachovský dětský sbor and the Gentlemen Singers from the Czech Republic and Sine nomine from Poland. CLASSICAL MUSIC: XXth Central European Festival of Concert Art - This annual event taking place every spring starts on April 19 this year and lasts until April 24. It includes, apart from local musicians and performances by winners of student competitions, concerts by the Czech Virtuosi Brno ensemble and Camerata Salzburg from Austria. A highlight will be the final concert by the St Petersburg Chamber Orchestra conducted by Yuri Gilbo, with the phenomenal Russian trumpeter Sergei Nakariakov.
