Daniel Lipšic

INTERIOR Minister Daniel Lipšic was born on July 8, 1973 in Bratislava. He studied at the school of law of Comenius University and continued at a post-graduate programme of Harvard University law school.

In 1996 -1997 Lipšic worked in an advisory centre for Slovak companies and banks and in 1998 he served as an attorney in the law office of Ernest Valko. In December 1998 he was appointed the head of the office of the Justice Ministry, a post which he held until March 2002.

Lipšic entered Slovak politics in 1991 when he was elected the chairman of the Civic-Democratic Youth. He held that post until 1995 and from 2000 to 2006 he was a deputy chairman of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) for interior issues and since 2009 for both interior and justice issues.

In the 2002 election Lipšic was elected MP and was appointed a deputy prime minister and the minister of justice. In 2006 he resigned from his post before the end of the term along with other KDH ministers when the party left the ruling coalition.

In June 2006 Lipšic was re-elected MP and became the member of the constitutional affairs committee and the committee for investigation of decisions of the National Security Bureau (NBU). In 2010 he was again re-elected MP and was appointed justice minister.

Daniel Lipšic is married with one child.
