THE INTERNATIONAL ceramic symposium Lučenec - Kalinovo 2004 has come to the end of its 16th year. Participating artists Michel Kuipers and Helly Oestreicher of the Netherlands, Peteris Martinsons from Latvia, and Gabriela Luptáková, Anna Horváthová and Andrea Čepiššáková from Slovakia are now presenting their works at the Novohradské Museum on Kármánova 1 in Lučenec until September 30.
A meter of importance
A NEW ERA in measuring TV channels' and programmes' popularity dawned in Slovakia on August 15. The laborious and approximate method of diaries was replaced by people meters, which should give a much more exact picture of the popularity of individual programmes and channels.Until now, the number of people following a TV broadcast was measured by the so-called diary method.

Power's latest stomping ground
THE FATE of the KIA investment is now largely in the hands of two old rivals - Economy Minister Pavol Rusko and entrepreneur Marián Kočner.Regardless of how their most recent clash will be resolved, the fact that the outcome of a significant investment deal depends on them is hardly good news for Slovakia. While media mogul Rusko has been in the public eye for years, Kočner is less of a well-known face, despite his colourful past.
SURVIVING Slovakia
WE are a foreign couple (New Zealand and Germany) and we would like to get married in Slovakia. Is it possible to do so? What do we need to do?First of all, we recommend that you contact the town hall or respective church (bishop's office) where the wedding ceremony is to take place. In Slovakia you can get married either in a church or in a town hall, and both marriages will be valid, but you should find out if both are considered valid in your country (e.g. a church wedding is sometimes not considered binding by itself).
Bird's eye view of Prešov
THE CHURCH tower of the St Mikuláš Cathedral in Prešov was recently opened to the public. Each hour between 7:00 to 11:00, and 13:00 to 17:00 on workdays, tourists may ascend the tower's 56 metres, and Saturdays offer evening climbs."The tower is 71-metres high in total, but it's only possible to climb up the first 56 metres. After that, there's only a tip with a loft above," said Stanislava Vavreková, one of the guides to the tower.
