Police miss deadline in Remiáš murder investigation
THE INVESTIGATION into the murder of Robert Remiáš has gone on for a decade, yet those responsible still remain at large. Police said the investigation would be wrapped up by the end of May, but that deadline passed without a completed case file.

Air Show Sliač
THE SLOVAK Air Fest 2006 starts at 8:00 on June 10 at Sliač airport. The morning programme will include air force shows of Mig 29s, L-39s, L-410s, M-24s and MI-17s. An Interior Ministry MI-171 helicopter will be seen, as will a brigade of firefighters. Hungarian athlete Veres Zoltán, who's the Master of Europe in solo acrobatics, will close the morning block on Extra 300.
Right wing rejects post-election pact
DESPITE their joint history spanning two governments and the enduring similarity between their programmes, the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) have rejected an offer by Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda to form a united bloc in talks on the next coalition government after the June 17 general elections.
Demänovská Cave
WHAT is probably Slovakia's best-known cave is 12 kilometres south of Liptovský Mikuláš, in the Low Tatras. Contrary to some of the country's other caves, it had to wait until the beginning of the 20th century to be discovered.
Almost half of Slovaks do not know a Roma personally
NEARLY one half of Slovak citizens see Roma people only in public places, and do not know any personally, a poll commissioned by the Association for Culture, Education and Communications has found. The poll was conducted within a campaign entitled "We Live Together."
SDKÚ caught in dodgy real estate deal
JUST WHEN it looked like Slovakia's squeaky-clean and scandal-free Campaign '06 might put voters to sleep, the ruling Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) livened things up with a cut-rate building sale to a party supporter.
The Mountain Rescue Service
AS OF July 1, tourists will bear the cost of search and rescue operations they require the Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) to conduct, excluding the costs covered by health insurance. Also, anyone who disobeys HZS commands could face fines up to Sk100,000 (€2,670).
