Lučenec
THIS postcard shows how the centre of Lučenec, the biggest and only genuine town of the Novohrad region, looked in 1921. Towns were much smaller than nowadays, and Lučenec had attained that status by the 18th century, with just 2,711 inhabitants.

THE CENTRAL Slovak town of Martin has started offering free unlimited internet access to all its inhabitants.Martin residents who apply for the service will be granted unlimited internet access and will also be given a complimentary phone line from which they can make free local calls.

BANSKÁ BYSTRICA - Banská Bystrica and Zvolen have announced plans to form a central Slovak metropolitan area that would be able to hold its own in the battle for European and state funding.
László Nagy is joking
Opposition SMK party chairman Béla Bugár's statement that the party will not take any action against MP László Nagy, who is ensnared in a Sk18 million bribery scandal, tells us nothing we didn't already know, given that Nagy no longer holds a senior post in the SMK, and the party is not allowed to take his mandate.
To believe or not believe the evidence?
Lawyer Mária Mešencová was asked to take a bribe to convince her client not to testify against another lawyer's client. Mešencová became a police agent to help to expose this corruption, and the Bar Association, claiming lawyers cannot be agents because it would violate the bond of trust with their clients, expelled her.
Prosecutor: Lexa never got justice
FORMER Bratislava Region prosecutor Michal Serbin maintains to this day that Ivan Lexa, the former director of the Slovak intelligence service (SIS) from 1995 to 1998, was guilty as charged.
