Košice taken to task over prohibition

THE EASTERN Slovak city of Košice tried to clean up its streets and squares last May by completely forbidding the public consumption of alcohol, but now they will have to tone down the regulation out of respect for 'personal rights and freedom'.

Cervanová accused refused parole

ONE OF the men convicted in the 1976 murder of Ľudmila Cervanová will stay in jail, after the District Court in Trnava ruled it couldn't approve his parole request on March 20.

The man they had recruited and then fought so hard to retain on the sports and education committee, Juraj Ondrejčák a.k.a. Legally appointed judges also at Constitutional Court?

Selections of legally appointed judges have been conducted electronically for several years now at all general courts of law. In practice, the way it works is that a computer program that cannot be tampered with generates the name of a judge to whom a specific case is assigned. This means of assigning cases creates legal certainty on the one hand, and eliminates any room for doubt regarding such choices on the other.

Slovakia gets second virtual bank from Poland

SLOVAK BANK clients are getting just as internet savvy as their western neighbours. Tatra Banka, Slovakia's oldest bank, reported that 75 percent of its transactions are now being done online, while internet service clients pay four times less for a transaction than high street bank clients (Sk3 instead of Sk12). Online transactions are cheaper at most Slovak banks.
