Slovakia and China agree to intensify economic co-operation
The head of the Slovak Trade and Industry Chamber (SOPK), Peter Mihók, and the vice-president of the Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Yu Ping, have signed an addendum to the 1994 agreement on co-operation between the two institutions that paves the way for more intensive economic collaboration, the TASR reported on Wednesday, September 26, citing SOPK press secretary Bibiana Gunišová.
ÚPSVaR files criminal complaint over girl’s death
In the aftermath of the recent case of a Slovak girl from the Bratislava borough of Ružinov who died after allegedly being tortured by her stepfather, the Social Affairs and the Family Centre (ÚPSVaR), part of the Labour Ministry, has filed a criminal complaint in the matter, the TASR newswire reported on Wednesday, September 26, quoting ÚPSVaR spokesman Peter Zeman.

Cabinet removes three Judicial Council members nominated under previous government
The cabinet, conducting an away-from-home session in Michalovce in eastern Slovakia on Wednesday, September 26, dismissed three members of the Slovak Judicial Council, which oversees the work of the judiciary. Ľudmila Babjaková, Jozef Vozár and Alexander Brostl were all appointed in January 2011 by the previous government, led by Iveta Radičová, the TASR newswire reported.

Slovak banks revise their GDP outlooks for next year
Slovakia’s banks have revised their prognoses for the country’s economic growth in 2013 from an average of 2.4 percent predicted in August to 2.2 percent, according to a survey among their analysts by the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS), the country’s central bank. Earlier this month the Finance Ministry and the NBS also reduced their GDP predictions for 2013, the SITA newswire reported.
Slovak accused of poisoning alcohol in Czech Republic, Sme reports
Czech police have charged Rudolf Fian, a 42-year-old Slovak of causing the deaths of 26 people who were poisoned with methanol-tainted alcohol. Neither Fian nor his alleged accomplice, Tomáš Křepela, has a previous criminal record before, the Sme daily reported.
Mayor Bollo says Marián Kotleba is trying to stir up emotions
The building authority of the municipal office in Krásnohorské Podhradie in the Rožňava district, has not received as of Monday, September 24, any application from Marián Kotleba or his lawyer for a permit to demolish structures in the Roma settlement, or an announcement that a public gathering should take place on Saturday in the village, Mayor Peter Bollo told the SITA newswire.
