Kažimír: Big companies caught evading €5 million in tax
The Financial Directorate and the Police Corps have prevented two cases of tax evasion amounting to €5 million based on fictitious trades in commodities carried out by large companies with significant market shares, Finance Minister Peter Kažimír said at a press conference on Thursday, November 29.

Academic senate of Trenčín University votes to dismiss rector
The academic senate of Trenčín University of Alexander Dubcek (TnUAD) has voted to dismiss the university’s rector, Ivan Kneppo. The ballot came after a five-hour session of the senate held on Wednesday, November 28. In a secret vote, 20 members voted for Kneppo’s dismissal, while four voted against. Kneppo's associates claim that his dismissal is invalid.

Some companies will have to buy their CO2 emission quotas next year
The Slovak Parliament on Wednesday, November 28, approved a new system of providing CO2 emissions quotas which will require some companies – especially those operating in the sphere of electricity production – to pay for all of their quotas, while allocating the rest to manufacturing companies for free.
Nationwide teachers' strike halted – for now
WHAT had been heralded as an unlimited nationwide strike by teachers aiming for a 10-percent pay rise was interrupted on Wednesday, November 28, after just three days with pupils and groups of disappointed teachers returning to schools and the teachers’ unions sitting across a negotiating table from the government. By November 29, the Trade Unions of Employees of the Education Sector and Science (OZ PŠaV) had still not reached any definite agreement with the government, but published a statement on its website claiming that support for the strike had dropped significantly in the regions. However, the New School Unions, another trade union representing teachers, called the interruption of the strike a waste, and teachers at several schools around Slovakia vowed to continue striking.

Kažimír: State revenue €276 million less, budget in danger
Slovakia's tax and levy (payroll deductions) earnings for this year will probably be €276 million less than previously expected, according to an analysis provided by the Financial Policy Institute (IFP), said Finance Minister Peter Kažimír at a press conference on Tuesday, November 27.
Slovakia not required to send income from SMP to Greece
Eurozone Finance Ministers reached an agreement after a 13-hour meeting on Greece on Tuesday that a sum equivalent to the income from the SMP (Greek bonds purchased under the European Central Bank's Securities Market Programme) will be sent to Greece; however, Slovakia managed to be exempted from these transfers.
Slovak KIA plant to produce new sports model in 2013
The Kia Motors Slovakia plant will start producing the new Kia pro_cee'd GT model next year. Kia Slovakia spokesman Dušan Dvořák informed the SITA newswire that the car will be a sports model.
Teachers’ strike will be put on hold Wednesday evening
The strike by teachers and school employees that started on Monday will be interrupted on Wednesday, November 28, at 18:00 for an unspecified period of time. This was decided by the union strike committee, citing continuing negotiations with government representatives that started on Tuesday as the reason.
