FIRE, smoke, fights, barricades. For the the past two months, Ukraine has resembled a country at war. While observers claim the political solution of the crisis in Ukraine is in everybody’s interest, they admit further escalation of tension could mean problems for Ukraine’s immediate neighbour – Slovakia.

Since most mobile users need a charging cable, CulCharge may have found a place in the market, the Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote on January 10.

Degradable plastic from Bratislava

SLOVAK scientists have developed a break-through technology to produce ecologically-friendly plastic bags that biodegrade when thrown into compost. The plastic is produced from organic materials like whey and corn, the Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote.

State targets carousel fraud

CAROUSEL fraud, a form of VAT evasion which can involve a company sending empty trucks or transporting goods in personal cars through border crossings, has become quite common in Slovakia. The Sme daily calculated that the state loses more than €200 million in VAT to carousel fraud each year.
