The Tomark company is nominated for the FéliX Business Award in the Exceptional Family Business category.
The Prešov-based company Tomark belongs among respected players in Slovakia’s engineering industry. It earned its place also thanks to the way it handled the 2008-09 economic crisis when it faced existential problems.
FéliX Business Award
An award granted to businesses that is organised by Index economic magazine and Slovenská Sporiteľňa bank, in cooperation with partners. It is awarded to inspirational and socially responsible companies and municipalities for activities that contribute to the country’s prosperity and modernness.
At the time, the family business of Daniel Tomko Sr. and his son, Daniel Tomko Jr., had to dismiss most of its employees. It was left without orders, with big stocks in warehouses, and without the support of banks.
This period formed the Tomko family, and made them think about better protection from another crisis.
It resulted in a new business plan, investments into modern technologies and a focus on innovative products with higher added value. In addition, Tomark launched the production of airplanes, so desired that they hardly have time to meet the demand.

Chassis for trucks
Despite the new segment, Tomark’s core business remains traditional engineering. This Prešov-based company has made its name by producing welded parts for nearly 30 years.

Among its customers is the German company Bernard Krone, which they supply with chassis and frames for Krone truck trailers.
This partnership’s history dates back to the 1990s, when Tomko Sr. worked as a production director of the Strojstav company, which cooperated with the Germans.
