The average nominal monthly wage in Slovakia amounted to €912 in 2016, which is 3.3 percent more than the year before. The real monthly wage rose by 3.8 percent last year, up by 0.4 percentage points compared with 2015.
As for the final quarter of 2016, the average nominal monthly wage in Slovakia amounted to €990, which is an annual increase of 3.6 percent, according to the data of the Slovak Statistics Office.
The development of the real monthly wage in the fourth quarter of 2016 was impacted mostly by the decrease of consumer prices in comparison with the growth of the nominal wage. After the seasonal adjustment, the average nominal wage grew by 1 percent compared with the previous quarter.
The highest average monthly wage was in information and communication (€1,892); financial and insurance activities (€1,769), and in electricity, gas and steam supply (€1,712).
On the other hand, employees in accommodation and food service industries, other service activities and construction earned the least, only €613, €662 and €689, respectively.
The average nominal monthly wage grew the most in the 4Q in mining and quarrying (by 13.7 percent year-on-year), and in electricity, gas and steam supply (by 9.7 percent y/y). It dropped in real estate activities (by 3.7 percent y/y), information and communication (by 2.7 percent y/y), and in construction (by 1.4 percent y/y), according to the Statistics Office.
Regarding the regions, the average nominal monthly wage was higher than the average of the whole economy only in the Bratislava Region (€1,235). In other regions, it ranged from €798 in Prešov to €922 in Trenčín.
In annual comparison, the average wage was higher in all regions with the highest relative increase of 6.4 percent y/y in the Trnava Region.
