Slovaks consumed more electricity last year. Their consumption amounted to 30.1 terawatt hours of electricity, up by 0.5 terawatt hours, Slovakia’s dominant electricity producer, Slovenské Elektrárne informed.
“Slovaks last year consumed a record amount of electricity, the highest since 1983 when the archiving of data started,” informed Slovenské Elektrárne (SE) as cited by the SITA newswire.
Slovakia is still dependent on imported electricity. Electricity producers in Slovakia generated a total of 27.5 terawatt hours of electricity in 2016. This is a slight increase by 0.261 terawatt hours from a year ago. The share of SE in last year’s production accounted for nearly 70 percent when it produced nearly 19 terawatt hours of electricity.
The biggest ever amount of electricity in Slovakia was generated 15 years ago, when the country’s energy sources generated 32.8 terawatt hours of electricity. The smallest amount in the history of Slovakia was put out in 1983 when 19.6 terawatt hours of electricity were produced here. Slovaks consumed the lowest amount of electricity back in 1993 – 24.5 terawatt hours.
