Beginning in April, the Interior Ministry launched into normal operation a total of 26 electronic services, the SITA newswire informed.
“With the information services, citizens are able to ask also for a legally binding document,” the ministry’s press department wrote. “However, this requires the citizen to have a guaranteed electronic signature in his ID card – which also must have a chip.”
To use the new electronic services, one needs an ID card with a chip (which have been issued since December 2013), and an electronic certificate proving the car’s registration – a so-called small technical certificate – with a chip (issued since 2010). For some services, also an electronic signature is necessary.
Apart from information, the ministry has also launched so-called transaction services, e.g. application for the replacement of a plate with license number in case of theft or loss. A car can be also registered and de-registered online.
Thus, the biggest novelty and advantage is that people need not visit the road inspectorate personally; and for those steps which have to be done in person (e.g. taking over the license plates), people will be able to arrange a fixed time.
The electronic services have been tested for several months with five car dealers. They are part of a huge project worth €42 million, part of which is also a special technology for police cars. The electronic services are available at portal.minv.sk, or at www.slovensko.sk.
