New power plant goes online

ENERGY company E.ON launched electricity production at a newly built combined-cycle power plant near the village of Malženice, in Trnava Region, on January 10.

ENERGY company E.ON launched electricity production at a newly built combined-cycle power plant near the village of Malženice, in Trnava Region, on January 10.

The facility, which has a generating capacity of 430 MW, is expected to produce more than 3 billion kWh of electricity per year while consuming approximately 500 million cubic metres of natural gas as fuel. The facility will provide 30 permanent jobs.

Construction of the plant began in October 2008 and took 26 months to complete, in accordance with the original plan. Total investment was about €400 million, the TASR newswire reported.

“Construction of the combined-cycle power plant in Malženice will strengthen the position of E.ON in the generation of electric power in Slovakia,” said Konrad Kreuzer, the chairman of E.ON Slovakia’s board of directors.

“Thanks to top technology, we supply electricity to the grid in a way that is not only effective, but also environmentally friendly.”
