COMPANIES of the public bus transporter Slovenská Autobusová Doprava (SAD) made a profit of Sk201 million in 2001, a nearly four-fold increase over the previous year, said Ján Vrba of the Bus Transport Association.
Overall revenues reached Sk8.6 billion in 2001, a year on year increase of 12 per cent, said Vrba. Sales from transport activities saw a year on year increase of 10.8 per cent to Sk5.5 billion, largely due to an average 20 per cent fare increase in commuter transport.
Vrba characterised SAD's performance as stable, and attributed the profit mainly to non-transport activities. Long-distance domestic service, international service and non-regular lines were the most profitable among transport activities, while commuter transport and city transport, both of which are subsidised, lost money.
Binding offers on two of the 17 firms associated under SAD were received on February 21.
