IT will cost Sk291.7 million (€7.7 million) to construct new and upgrade existing border crossing points on the Slovak-Ukrainian frontier, the TASR news agency reported.
The investment is necessary following Slovakia's accession into the European Union (EU) and possible entry into the Schengen Agreement.
The money will come from several sources, including Slovakia's finance and transportation ministries, the EU Schengen Fund and the EU's PHARE programme.
According to a Finance Ministry plan, three new custom control points will be built on the Slovak-Ukrainian border between 2005 and 2010. In addition, four existing Slovak-Ukrainian border crossings will be upgraded. Two are road crossings and two railway crossings. This work is scheduled for completion by 2007.
