As many as 139,126 people have applied to change their health insurer next year. The Health Care Surveillance Authority (ÚDZS) has denied about 6,632 applications, the TASR newswire reported.
The private health insurer Dôvera gained the most new clients. Counting all new policies and withdrawals of insurance, it will have altogether 30,472 new clients next year.
The state-run health insurer Všeobecná Zdravotná Poisťovňa lost the most clients: 38,520. The private health insurer, Union, has increased the number of its clients by 8,048.
When a health insurer can be changed?
Clients of Slovak health insurers can change their insurer once a year, up to September 30. The change is valid from the new year on.
The insured person is obliged to report the change to his or her employer. Self-employed people are obliged to report in written form the value of their prepayment to the new health insurer by January 8, 2019.
