Foreign companies contribute the most to state coffers

A windfall tax of €520 million made Slovnaft the top non-financial corporate taxpayer last year.

The close economic cooperation between Slovakia and Germany is reflected in Slovakia's latest tax statistics. The annual TAXparency report of the tax and audit advisory company BMB Partners, entitled Who Finances the State, indicates that German companies account for 20 percent of the income and payroll taxes paid by the 300 largest companies and their employees in Slovakia.

The report presents the top 200 biggest non-financial companies and the top 100 biggest financial companies in Slovakia for 2022. These firms reported total revenues of €102 billion, a rise of 14.87 percent compared to 2021. In total they and their employees paid €6.740 billion in income and payroll taxes in 2022. Of this, Slovak companies accounted for 22 percent, followed by German companies (20 percent or €1.38 billion) and Hungarian companies (10 percent or €690 million).
