Gabriela Matečná was born on November 28, 1964. She graduated from the University of Agriculture in Nitra, specialising in fytotechnology.

During her career Matečná worked at the Research Institute of Agroecology in Michalovce and in a number of companies dealing with projects for agriculture firms. In 2004-2007 she worked at the Agriculture Payment Agency and in 2008 she started at the Land Property Fund as the head of department of transfer and rent.
