TEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS IN DANUBIANA:
EL LISSITZKY & ER SIKORA - The main intent of the double-exhibition metaphorically entitled El Lissitzky & eR Sikora is to retrieve and update the thoughts, ethos and artistic legacy of the Russian revolutionary avant-garde. The Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, Netherlands, owner of an unprecedented collection of works of El Lissitzky, and the Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum in Bratislava-Čunovo have collaborated on an ambitious and unique project which combines – over time and space – two figures, two oeuvres, two visual and ideological worlds: the world famous master of the 20th century avant-garde, Constructivism and Suprematism, Lazar/El Lissitzky (1890 – 1941) and conceptualist Rudolf Sikora (1946), one of the major representatives of Slovak and Central European avant-garde. Open: 10:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. until June 30. Closed on Mondays, Bratislava-Čunovo, Vodné dielo. More info: www.danubiana.sk.
Adela Režná: Illustrations - Adela Režná is a recent graduate of the Studio of Illustration at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design under prof. Dušan Kállay. She focuses on illustrations for children and has created the following books: Marínka Somarinka (Marina, the Silly Little Girl, 2014), Things Not Seen by the Naked Eye (2016), Denník Majky z Majáka (Maya’s Lighthouse Diary, 2017), Stratený zajko v Paríži (Lost Bunny in Paris, 2017) and Na výlete (On a Trip, 2018). Cukrové topánky (Sugar Shoes), her artistic debut, was published in 2018. We can also find her work in other interesting projects such as Inakosti slovenské (bedeker pre cudzincov; Slovak Otherness, A Baedeker for Foreigners), Bratislava v sto slovách (Bratislava in a Hundred Words), An Athlete’s Training Diary (magazine on sports), and Omaľovánka 2.0. (Coloring Book 2.0). Open: 10:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. until June 30. Closed on Mondays, Bratislava-Čunovo, Vodné dielo. More info: www.danubiana.sk
Jozef Gľaba: Illustrations – Jozef Gľaba works with digital illustration and freestyle printmaking. His focal techniques in freestyle printmaking are screen printing, rotogravure printing and linocut. He also creates illustrations for children and adults, as well as for products. You can see his work in the network of Kraj grocery stores, Slniečko magazine for children and the illustrated edition of the Denník N newspaper, which was published in cooperation with illustrators from AFAD in 2019. His works feature a sense of humor, play on words and a feeling for detail and composition. Open: 10:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. until June 30. Closed on Mondays, Bratislava-Čunovo, Vodné dielo. More info: www.danubiana.sk.
TEMPORARY EXHIBITION IN SLOVAK NATIONAL GALLERY
From the Academy to Nature. Forms of Landscape Painting in Central Europe 1860–1890 - This exhibition, organized jointly by the Slovak National Gallery and the Gallery of West Bohemia in Pilsen, is among the first efforts concentrating on the work by art personalities who moved between the Danube Monarchy and the visual art centres of that time, responding to the attraction of the plein-air landscape. Open: Monday: closed, Tuesday – Wednesday: 10.00 – 18.00, Thursday: 12.00 – 20.00, Friday – Sunday: 10.00 – 18.00, Esterházy’s Palace. More info: www.sng.sk.
Land behind the Map. Amazing Art History with Professor Hamster - Amazing Art History with Professor Hamster is an interactive projection dedicated to the story of art history, prepared in cooperation with Prague colleagues (concept by Ondřej Horák, execution by Ondřej Fuczik, David Kakalík and INITI) and loosely based on their previous activities in the Czech Republic. The projection is designed for children interested in art history, as well as for lay and informed visitors who want to learn more. Telling the story of art, connected with a series of animated films devoted to the life and context of the work of a prominent Slovak, as well as world visual artists of the 20th century and the present, combines learning and entertainment. Open: Monday: closed, Tuesday – Wednesday: 10.00 – 18.00, Thursday: 12.00 – 20.00, Friday – Sunday: 10.00 – 18.00, Esterházy’s Palace. More info: www.sng.sk.
The Kornel and Naďa Földvári Library - The Kornel and Naďa Földvári Library is a project dedicated to Slovak writer, satirist, art and literary critic, book collector and translator, Kornel Földvári. Preparations started together with Peter Krištúfek, writer and director, who has searched for a method of preserving Földvári's large collection of books for a long time. Open: Monday: closed, Tuesday – Wednesday: 10.00 – 18.00, Thursday: 12.00 – 20.00, Friday – Sunday: 10.00 – 18.00, Esterházy’s Palace. More info: www.sng.sk.
Artist´s (Heavy) Luggage - Arnold Peter Weisz-Kubínčan (1898 - 1944) was born into a Jewish family in the town of Usch, Prussia. From 1913 to 1917 he studied sculpture at the School of Arts and Crafts in Budapest. After the war he continued his studies in Berlin, most probably at a private academy. In the Berlin of the 1920s he could be close to the expressionistic tendencies which suited his artistic nature. Weisz-Kubínčan is a unique figure in terms of our modern painting and drawing but also due to his mysticism. Open: Monday: closed, Tuesday – Wednesday: 10.00 – 18.00, Thursday: 12.00 – 20.00, Friday – Sunday: 10.00 – 18.00, Esterházy’s Palace until November 10. More info: www.sng.sk.
