Bratislava residents who use the Železná Studnička resort on the edge of the city for recreation will see changes in parking. The city administration, in cooperation with the municipal company Mestské Lesy v Bratislave, has introduced parking regulations to free up spaces for visitors and limit long-term parking by commuters.
Since March, modifications have been underway at the parking lots near Červený Bridge, including the installation of a barrier system and a new parking regime.
Weekends remain free

Parking will remain free on weekends and public holidays.
On weekdays, the first three hours will be free, after which parking will cost €1 per hour.
Payment will be possible via a payment card upon exit.
Until now, parking lots at Železná Studnička were mainly occupied on weekdays by people commuting to work in nearby business centres. This trend left recreational visitors without parking spaces, even though the spots were primarily meant for them. In response, Bratislava has decided to implement regulations.
“Our goal is to ensure that the parking lots at Železná Studnička primarily serve visitors to the forest park,” stated the municipal forest company as cited by bratislavskyvecernik.sk. “So far, they have often been occupied on weekdays by cars belonging to people working in nearby business centres, which has been causing long-term problems.”
To address this, the city is introducing a new parking regime that will take effect once the modifications are complete. Under it, parking will remain free on weekends and public holidays. On weekdays, the first three hours will be free, after which parking will cost €1 per hour. Payment will be possible via a payment card upon exit.
The Bratislava city administration hopes that this measure will increase the availability of spaces for recreation while preventing all-day occupation of parking facilities by people leaving their cars there for the entire day”.
Changes underway
The introduction of the new parking system requires technical adjustments. Work began on March 6 with the upper parking lot undergoing phased installation of the barrier system, resurfacing, and signage updates. Upon completion, the parking lot will have 104 spaces, including four for people with disabilities, four for electric vehicles, and three for motorcycles.
The city expects the upper parking lot modifications to be completed by the end of March. After that, the lower parking lot under Červený Bridge will be closed for about a week for the installation of another barrier.
“Both parking lots will be fully operational for visitors in the first half of April,” stated the Bratislava city administration.
Alternatives for motorists and public transport users
The city also recommends that visitors use the free P+R parking lot near Tesco Lamač, which provides a convenient transfer to public transport. Additionally, bus line 43 will have increased frequency on weekends to improve access to Železná Studnička for those using public transportation.

The changes aim to optimise the use of parking spaces for recreational purposes while preventing long-term occupation.
“We want the municipal forests to be as accessible as possible to everyone coming here for sports, relaxation, or family outings,” added the Mestské Lesy v Bratislave.
