BratislavaFESTIVAL: SCORES of Slovak and foreign musicians will perform at the Melos-Ethos International Festival of Contemporary Music in Bratislava from November 6 to 15. The 10th edition of this biennial event features 14 concerts presenting the latest trends in classical music. Most of the pieces will be getting their Slovak premieres and some compositions have even been written for the festival. At the opening soirée on November 6, the Slovak VENI ensemble conducted by Marián Lejava will perform two works by Dutch composer Louis Andriessen (above). FESTIVAL: One World – The 10th edition of this international documentary film festival offers a rich programme of Slovak and foreign flicks about the dark sides of prosperity and wealth as well as stimulating discussions, exhibitions and concerts.

EXHIBITION: AFTER its renovation, the Tatra Gallery (TG) in Poprad is enlivened with new exhibitions. The most extensive one, “From TG’s Collection”, is available at the premises of the former electricity plant at Hviezdoslavova 12 until January 31, 2010. It is a kaleidoscope of the most interesting pieces from among the 2,500 artworks acquired by the gallery over the last fifty years. The authors of the paintings, sculptures, and other pieces of art include not only Slovak maestros like Janko Alexy, Martin Benka and Miloš Alexander Bazovský, but also contemporary artists, both local and foreign.
