A BLESSING of this year's wine will open the three-day Festivities of Young Wine that starts in Bratislava on November 9. After the festival's official opening, citizens and visitors of Bratislava can taste wines from the capital's various districts and the Low Carpathians region. Winemakers expect that last year's summer and sunny autumn have given the wines an exceptional quality. Apart from wine, attendants can also taste local delicacies, buy folk handicrafts and watch performances by folk ensembles and other artists. The event - which is the result of efforts by Bratislava, wine makers from the Low Carpathians and the festival of Bratislava's patron, St. Martin - will take place at the Primaciálne námestie and the courtyard of the Old City Hall. ZIKMUND and Hanzelka- Photos is a unique exhibition of photos taken during the travels of the famous Czech duo Miroslav Zikmund and Jiří Hanzelka. The display in the Slovak Technical Museum in Košice presents about 150 images from their two major trips, during which they traveled across Africa, Central and South America (1947-1950), the Middle East, Asia and the former Soviet Union (1959-1964). Curator Radovan Koděra attempted to select photos that communicated atmosphere and emotion. "We were surprised at how many literally artistic images Hanzelka and Zikmund's archive holds." The legendary Tatra 805 and Tatra 87 that the duo rode around in during their trips is part of the exhibition.
