Jonáš Záborský Theatre turns 60

DIVADLO Jonáša Záborského theatre in Prešov celebrated its 60th anniversary with a renewed premiere of Jozef Gregor Tajovský's Ženský Zákon (Women's Code) on January 30.The first Prešov professional theatre started under the name Slovak Theatre. Originally a drama theatre, it later added musical works and ballets. In the 1950s it also produced operas by Giuseppe Verdi and Bedřich Smetana.During its existence, the theatre has premiered around 700 plays. The musical play about the legendary hero Juraj Jánošík, Na skle maľované (Painted on Glass), has had over 300 reprises and is included in the theatre's repertoire for the 11th year.

In May, the theatre will hold an event showcasing its current performances, which, according to its director, will have an international character, the SITA news agency wrote.
