Nemecká Ľupča has been somewhat forsaken as of recently, but remains among the most beautiful towns of the Liptov region. During socialism, the town had a prouder name - Partizánska (Partisan) Ľupča - which recalled its role in the Slovak National Uprising. The name Nemecká (German) came not from the high volume of German citizens who lived there in the past but because the town followed German laws. In Slovakia, there is also a town named Slovenská Ľupča, which followed Slovak laws.
The reason Nemecká Ľupča is one of the oldest towns in this region is probably because it lies close to a main road that stretches across the entire Liptov region. Two 13th century Gothic churches and an oval square with Renaissance houses rebuilt in the 19th century make it attractive for tourists.
