The newest edition of Svätovojtešská Biblia (Saint Vojtech Bible) gained the precious Red Dot Award for communication design.
The prizes for Red Dot Awards were awarded in Berlin in 18 categories. The designer of the bible graphics is the studio of graphic design Pergamen.
“Red Dot Award is even more precious when considering that books are rarely awarded in design contests. Even more surprising is the fact that it was a bible,” said creative director of Pergamen Juraj Demovič, as quoted by the SITA newswire, who is also the author of the graphic design for the bible.
“We value the prize even more because we gained it in Germany, well-known for its high quality typography,” said Demovič for SITA, adding that Svätovojtešská Bible got the award for typography.
“I am proud that the bible from our production succeeded in a worldwide competition. It’s proof that publishing not only valuable but also beautiful books makes sense,” said director of Spolok svätého Vojtecha (Saint Vojtech Society) Ivan Šulík for SITA.
The bible was created with international cooperation, together with Czech studio of virtual communication Viva Design and Finnish printer St Michel Print, Šulík informed.
The Saint Vojtech Society, the biggest and the oldest Catholic publisher in Slovakia, published the Bible in 2016. It has 3,360 pages and is unique thanks to a large type of script and wide edges. It is a family type of Bible and includes a family chronicle.
More than 8,000 design projects from 50 countries applied to the Red Dot Awards contest this year. The jury consisted of 24 members who chose the best. Pergamen also gained a Red Dot Award for the graphic design of a wine label for family vineyard in Modra.
