The Slovak National Gallery (SNG) in Bratislava is celebrating its 70th birthday on Saturday, July 28, the TASR newswire learnt on July 23.
In order to mark this special anniversary, Slovakia’s top gallery institution, which falls under the Culture Ministry, has prepared a birthday party with a colourful, five-hour evening programme, including exhibitions, music and good food.

“We’ve prepared professional and experiential events, and we’ll also offer gifts to visitors, so in addition to an experience, they’ll receive something tangible,” said SNG general manager Alexandra Kusá for TASR.
She went on to say that even though the gallery in downtown Bratislava has been undergoing vast reconstruction for some time already, it has had no influence on the artistic condition of the institution.

Regarding the programme, SNG has prepared creative workshops for families with children, a guided tour around the gallery, the first curator’s lecture at the Filla-Fulla Artist’s Fate exhibition, the Nestex exhibition of ancient art, an audiovisual performance, Ján Šicko & Pjoni, the premiere of the video-documentary 70 Years of SNG, and more.
Demonstrations of the work of curators, restaurant staff, digitisation experts and other professionals working at the gallery will all be included.
The candles on a special birthday cake will be blown out at 21:30 at the Berlínka café adjacent to the gallery.
