Tučný Kocúr, Trnava: "A bit of a brave name for a restaurant" - restaurant review

When the food arrives it is clear that this is streets ahead of what you get in a more famous burger chain.

The first snowfall of the winter blew into Trnava during my recent day-trip to the city. High clouds and a cold wind gave a truly wintery atmosphere to the Christmas markets on their opening weekend. Music played in the town square, and we wandered between the groups of people queueing up forpunč or grilled oštiepok cheese.

Gradually however the cold wind was getting to us, and we needed something more than hot wine to keep us going. Fortunately, a friend from Trnava had recommended a relatively new place to eat; Tučný Kocúr (The Fat Cat) on Štefánikova, a small independent burger joint, only a minute or two’s walk from the edge of the market. To me this is a bit of a brave name for a restaurant: In English we talk about “fat cats” as wealthy businessmen, who maybe don’t seem to work hard enough to be as rich as they are. So will this cat deserve its recommendation, and most of all does it deserve to take my money?
