abolition of visas for Slovaks travelling to Canada should create a more positive atmosphere in the USA's decision-making on the same issue, Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Ján Kubiš said on March 5 in Bratislava.
"We trust the US as a reliable partner and our American representatives also know that Canada cares about the fulfillment of security conditions," Kubiš said of the impact Canada's decision, the TASR wrote.
Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák is of similar opinion. Both representatives agreed that Slovakia would make some information about Slovaks available to the American side, but it will not go beyond what's allowed by the EU.
According to Kubiš, Slovakia is prepared not to exceed the level agreed between the USA and the Czech Republic, and is negotiating for even better conditions. Kaliňák emphasised that it's necessary to take advantage of the upcoming months because the Bush administration is being more benevolent toward Central European countries in the area of visa regimes.
