Accord to combat football hooliganism

THE SLOVAK Football Association (SFZ) signed a contract on cooperation with the Interior Ministry aimed at coordinating action at football matches to prevent hooliganism and other forms of violence.

SFZ president František Laurinec and Pavel Zajac, president of the Slovak Police Presidium, signed the contract on October 24.

Violence and abuse of players by fans at an October 12 European Championships 2004 qualifier match in Bratislava received much media coverage in Slovakia and abroad.

The visiting England national team accused Slovak fans of racism after monkey chants were heard from the Slovak part of the stadium every time England's black players Ashley Cole and Emile Heskey had the ball.
