The opposition Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) announced it would not wait for its opposition partner, the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) to decide on the candidate for next year’s presidential election. KDH said, as quoted by the Sme daily, it would name the candidate on October 12 at the meeting of the Presidential Council.
The SDKÚ, on the other hand, wants to field the candidate just after the
outcome of November’s regional elections is known – which is too late for KDH. KDH and Most-Híd (another opposition party) have already backed KDH’s Pavol Hrušovský, Sme wrote on October 3.
