The Forum for Public Issues (FVO), a non-governmental organisation that promotes Christian values, believes there are too many supporters of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people in the Council for Human Rights, the government’s advisory body that is currently working on the national human rights protection strategy.
The FVO sent a letter to Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčak, who heads the council, requesting changes to the council’s membership so that it includes fewer LGBTI rights supporters, the SITA newswire reported on October 2.
It was clear at the council’s September 4 session that many of the NGO representatives sitting at the council support rights for people with different sexual orientation, the FVO lawyer Martin Dilong, said as reported by SITA.
“On the other hand, civic associations that represent a big part of the population in Slovakia and perform many activities for children, youth, disabled and seniors, have minimal representation in the council,” the FVO’s letter reads, as quoted by SITA.
The FVO suggested that the composition of the council should represent the plurality of opinions in Slovak society.
