The Conservative Democrats of Slovakia (KDS) party will not field candidates in the parliamnetary election in June, KDS spokesperson Mária Majdová told the TASR newswire on March 1.
“We've decided not to seek voters’ support in the election in June, primarily because of the party’s financial situation,” said party leader Vladimír Palko. According to Palko, the party would be left with almost no funds for its campaign if it paid the election deposit of €16,600.
“It wouldn't be fair to the voters to stand without a proper campaign,” he said. The party was set up in 2008 by four MPs who had left the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) - Palko, František Mikloško, Pavol Minárik and Rudolf Bauer. TASR
