Court confirms Lexa amnesty

A Bratislava region court has upheld the decision of a lower court to halt proceedings against former secret service boss Ivan Lexa for the kidnapping of the former president’s son, saying an amnesty issued in 1998 prevents Lexa’s prosecution.

Attorney General Milan Hanzel has promised to appeal the verdict to the supreme court, saying the amnesty, issued by then-acting president Vladimír Mečiar, refers to “crimes related to the kidnapping” and not the actual kidnapping itself.
