The year-on-year decline in construction output, persisting since the beginning of the year, slowed in August by 0.2 percent to €566.1 million, the SITA newswire wrote. In July, construction output shrank 5.7 percent y-o-y, following June's softening of 0.3 percent.
According to data from the Slovak Statistics Office, domestic construction output rose by 0.7 percent in August, the first growth this year. Eight months into 2009, construction output had fallen 7.4 percent to €3.686 billion.
Domestic construction output reached €548.1 million in August. New construction, including modernisation and reconstruction rose 4.2 percent to €463.3 million. Repair and maintenance dropped 15.8 percent to €82.5 million, SITA wrote. New construction made up 84.5 percent of the domestic construction output, which is 2.8 points more y-o-y. Infrastructure projects rose 10 percent and works on buildings decreased 2.5 percent.
