With only hours before nominations close, no alternative candidate has yet come forward to challenge Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) leader Mikuláš Dzurinda for the top place on the party’s election list in next year’s general election.
The SDKÚ, which is the largest party in the current government, confirmed on November 1 via spokesman Michal Lukac that nobody had shown an interest in challenging Dzurinda in the party primaries. If no challenger emerges by 15:00 on Wednesday, November 2, Dzurinda will automatically lead the party into the elections.
