Eurostat reports 15.6 percent jobless rate

EUROSTAT, the European Union's statistical bureau, reported that the unemployment rate in Slovakia fell to 15.8 percent in February from the revised January figure of 15.9 percent. Despite the drop, Slovakia posted the second highest jobless rate among EU countries in February, with only Poland recording worse results with 17 percent. On the other hand, Slovakia had one of the most significant year-on-year falls in the jobless rate, the SITA news wire wrote. In February 2005 the seasonally adjusted unemployment was 16.7 percent.The average EU unemployment rate was steady at 8.5 percent in February 2006. The lowest rate, 4.3 percent, was recorded in Ireland. Greece had the third highest jobless rate, at 9.6 percent.According to data from the Slovak Labour Bureau, the registered unemployment rate in Slovakia was 11.66 percent in February.
