THE EUROPEAN Parliament approved 10 new commissioners, including the Slovak representative Ján Figeľ, a former head of the parliamentary foreign committee who headed the Slovak negotiation team for EU entry for years.
The new commissioners, who come from the new member states, will serve their term until the end of October this year. Then they will go through a second selection process. The current commission, composed of 30 members, will be dissolved and a new one, consisting of 25 members elected for a five-year term.
Figeľ was chosen to work with commissioner Erkki Liikanen, who is responsible for business issues and information society, the Slovak daily Pravda wrote.
