First boar diagnosed with African swine fever in Slovakia

They can be a source of infection for pigs.

A boar in the Trebišov district was diagnosed with African swine fever. The behaviour of the animal changed, shot by a hunter and the sample sent to a lab for testing.

The boar was located in the cadastre of Svätuše village (near Trebišov), about 7 kilometres away from the border with Hungary. Across the border several cases of African swine fever were diagnosed in boars (there have been more than 800 positive diagnoses only since January 1, 2019).

The national expert group for African swine fever is analyzing the situation and will adopt measures for hunting and finding boar fever as a possible source of infection. Boars are a source of infection also for pigs.
