IN ITS cover story, the daily Národná obroda claimed that a handbook for teachers of religion was sexist, according to psychologists and sociology experts.
The handbook was released by the Conference of Bishops of Slovakia in 1999 and it instructs teachers in educating second-grade students in religious matters.
It is a presentation of considerably outdated and patriarchal views on the role of men and women in society and the family, the daily wrote.
A chapter explaining the essence of soap operas openly derides the female intellect, suggesting that the programmes "are intended for the females in the household as men are soon able to come up with the right judgment [on the shows]."
The Education Ministry has not yet taken any stand on the handbook.
