MEMBERS of the doctors' labor union LOZ will go on strike in Bratislava on April 6 at 3:30 pm, the union warned on April 3, to protest what they perceive as low wages in the health care sector.
The strike comes shortly after an unsuccessful meeting between the LOZ and PM Mikuláš Dzurinda, who according to the union, failed to convince health care staff of his willingness to meet their demands.
PM LOZ chairman Marián Kollár stated the strike could be expanded nationally, with hospitals in Banská Bystrica, Nitra, and Prešov already announcing their willingness to participate, according to the SME daily, but was quick to point out it could be avoided if Dzurinda were to present a suitable resolution.
Health care staff promised that, in the event of a strike, all emergency cases would continue to be treated.
