SPEAKER of Parliament Pavol Hrušovský told the TASR news agency that 2004 had been one of the most difficult for the Slovak Parliament, in which the ruing coalition lost its majority.

It was also a year that saw the introduction of a major reform programme.

"As the most important, I see the pension reform, the laws on fiscal decentralisation and the healthcare reform," said Hrušovský. He considers the boldness of the reforms to have caused differences of opinion even amongst the ruling coalition.

"It was one of parliament's most difficult years, especially because the coalition lost its majority," he added.
