THE RULING Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) wants to unite with the opposition in an effort to push through some of its ideas for next year's state budget.
Unlike its coalition partners, Smer and the Slovak National Party (SNS), the HZDS is in favour of maintaining current levels of financial support for the third sector, the Pravda daily wrote.
"We have certain priorities and we will look for support for these priorities not only among the coalition [partners] but also among the opposition parties," said HZDS MP Ján Kovarčík.
He said that the HZDS wanted to prevent NGOs from losing the opportunity to receive two percent of the income tax paid by firms. It also supports the maintenance of flat-rate deductibles for self-employed entrepreneurs, which the ruling Smer party intends to cut.
The opposition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) has offered a helping hand to Vladimír Mečiar's HZDS.
SDKÚ MP Ivan Štefanec said that informal negotiations between his party and HZDS had already taken place.
