The growth of consumer prices in Slovakia in January was less than the Statistics Office had originally estimated. On Thursday, March 5, the office reported that they had reduced the consumer price index for January 2009 to 3.4 percent y-o-y, 0.3 percentage points less than their previous estimate. The month-on-month increase in consumer prices was also revised down from 0.7 percent to 0.4 percent, the SITA newswire wrote.
The Statistics Office explained that it had revised its figures on electricity prices after its employees had conducted an in-depth check of prices of heat for households and had consulted with the Regulatory Office for Network Industries (ÚRSO) in the second half of February. Subsequently, the prices for February were revised after consultations with ÚRSO.
The Statistics Office is scheduled to publish more detailed information about the revised data on March 12, together with data on inflation for February. SITA
