President Andrej Kiska on October 2 appointed Daniela Švecová as Supreme Court chair.
“We all feel that your appointment is somehow extraordinary not only for the Supreme Court, but also for the entire judiciary and the whole of Slovakia,” said Kiska at the ceremony, as quoted by the TASR newswire.
The president noted that the Slovak judiciary has long been criticised by lawyers, politicians, diplomats and also many judges. Švecová’s appointment gives hope that one era has come to an end, and the judiciary and the Supreme Court will again enjoy the trust of people, added Kiska.
“I’ll have to familiarise myself with the agenda first, then I’ll know what to do,” said Švecová when asked by a journalist what she will do first in the post.
