KREMNICA Mint was recognised for its important role in Europe's cultural heritage when it received a European Heritage Label last month.
A plaque representing the label, which is an EU initiative to foster a greater sense of European identity, was unveiled on February 24.
The occasion was also marked by the unveiling of a memorial bust of the mint's founder, King Robert of Anjou, as well as the opening of new minting premises, the Slovak Finance Ministry told the SITA newswire.
Kremnica Mint is one of the oldest continuously operating facilities of its kind not only in Europe but in the whole world. Coins and minted commemorative medals have been made in Kremnica for almost seven hundred years – since 1329. It currently manufactures Slovak euro coins.
The mint is also protected as a Slovak national cultural monument.
