Lawyer Daniel Lipšic is filing a criminal complaint against Peter Tóth for the crime of libel, he wrote on Facebook.

According to former journalist-turned-spy Tóth, Lipšic might have leaked information from the investigation file concerning the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée.

“I have never leaked any information from the investigation file to journalists,” Lipšic commented, as quoted by the Sme daily. “I didn’t even have any knowledge about the testimony of Peter Tóth. Quite the opposite; since the start of investigation, I have repeatedly warned the prosecutors assigned to the case about information leaks. This was also one day before the raid, when a few journalists already had information on the timing of the operation. I communicated repeatedly with journalists, asking them not to publish the information they have, and thus not threaten the investigation.”

According to Lipšic, Tóth is trying to avoid criminal responsibility and continues with smear campaigns.

Tóth was allegedly paid for at least six months by businessman Marian Kočner for monitoring several journalists, the Denník N daily wrote on October 22.

The daily also reported that Tóth allegedly testified about it at the police, where he arrived on his own after suspects in the Ján Kuciak and Martina Kušnírová murder case were detained.

Tóth has denied these allegations and claims the Denník N is lying and distorting the truth.

However, he thinks the lawyer for the injured party, i.e. Lipšic, might have been the journalist’s source. Tóth insists, as cited by Sme, that a testimony with his name and signature is not included in the investigation file, and that his guilty plea does not exist.
