No party primary for the post of election leader – i.e. the number one spot on the party’s election list – will take place, as no challenger to Dzurinda emerged by the set deadline and the party leader therefore received the position by default. The SDKÚ announced plans for a primary after the current prime minister, Iveta Radičová (who is also a member of the SDKÚ), announced that she would not stand in the general election.
